parkrun is Inclusive

Since parkrun started we have aimed to reduce all barriers to running, and make participation in our events as simple as possible. We love running and want as many people as possible to join us, regardless of age, gender, race, religion or ability. Our events are organised for and by local communities drawn from every conceivable background, and united by a love of running.

parkrun and Interactive

In 2010 we applied for, and were successful in obtaining funding from the Greater London Authority as part of the PlaySport project. As part of this project we were introduced to Interactive (see below), who help sports organisations to remove potential barriers that may prevent the participation of disabled people. While Interactive is focussed primarily on organisations based in London, we decided that all of our events could benefit from their expertise.

We are pleased to work with Interactive to ensure that our events are as accessible as possible to runners and volunteers with disabilities.

About Interactive

Interactive is a registered charity working for disability equality in sport.

Their Vision

To achieve an active and inclusive capital.

Their Core Remit

To work strategically across London in partnership with sport and physical activity providers and the health and disability sectors to achieve disability equality in sport in London. They aim to increase participation by disabled people in sport and physical activity and act in the best interest of our beneficiaries, to offer disabled people opportunities and choice.

Their Role

To influence and support mainstream sport providers and policy makers to ensure they create, deliver and sustain inclusive opportunities for disabled people. They use their expertise and influence across London to advocate inclusive sport and inform and advise disabled people on how they can get involved, at all levels, in sport and physical activity in London.
