Thank you

On the 14th june the Queen's birthday honours list was announced and I was fortunate to be awarded a CBE for services to grassroots sport participation. It is a great honour to receive this award and one that makes me very proud.

There are many people throughout my life that have helped shape who I am and have influenced the direction I have travelled. This is even more true since I started this running movement nearly ten years ago.

I have accepted this honour with pride in the knowledge and understanding that there are many thousands of volunteers and parkrunners who have helped make parkrun the success that it is. I am also deeply indebted to my family and the parkrun staff who are as passionate as I am about what we stand for.

Whilst there is already much evidence that what we do is life changing and that it brings society together in a wonderful new way, this award is further evidence that what we stand for and the impact on society is validated.

This award is for all of us.

My personal thanks to each and every one of you.

Peter Paul Sinton-Hewitt
