Following a successful three month interim period, Russ Jefferys’ position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UK based charity parkrun Global is made permanent.

Russ said: “As the world recovers from the pandemic, and at a time when the cost of living is rising, and the future uncertain, the provision of free, community-led physical activity has never been more important.

“Being appointed as CEO of parkrun at this key moment for the organisation is a real honour and privilege. I’m excited for the challenge ahead, and proud to be leading such a talented and dedicated team.”

Previously parkrun’s Global Head of Communications, a role he held since 2015, Russ has led the transformation of the organisation’s brand and communications, positioning the charity as a world leader in providing free and inclusive physical activity, for everyone.

Alongside this, Russ has built a robust commercial portfolio, including developing a thriving retail business, helping to ensure the future financial viability of parkrun around the world.

Chair of the Trustees Gavin Megaw said:

“We are delighted to confirm that Russ will lead the parkrun Global team on a permanent basis. He played an important role in sustaining the organisation during the pandemic and stepped into the interim role in February with energy and foresight. He has impressed Trustees in moving the organisation forward in a short period. We are excited about the future of parkrun and remain committed to making the world a healthier and happier place.”
